Tobacco Cessation & Oral Cancer Prevention
Supporting tobacco users to stop, and protecting everyone from oral cancer.
Tobacco in all its forms, whether smoked, smokeless, or inhaled, is the single largest modifiable risk factor for oral cancer and periodontal disease, and a significant contributor to implant failure, treatment complications, and poor wound healing. Our Tobacco Cessation & Oral Cancer Prevention Centre combines cessation counselling, structured stop-smoking programmes, and vigilant oral cancer surveillance into a single, integrated service.
“Stopping tobacco use is the single most impactful thing most of our patients can do for their oral and systemic health. Our role is to provide the expertise and support to make that achievable.”
What Does It Involve?
Tobacco cessation counselling at Vats & Param is conducted by trained clinicians using evidence-based brief intervention and motivational interviewing approaches. We do not lecture or judge; instead, we provide information, explore readiness to change, and offer structured support including pharmacotherapy referral, follow-up appointments, and relapse management.
Oral cancer screening is part of every comprehensive oral assessment, and in tobacco users it is conducted with heightened vigilance. Any suspicious lesion is documented, monitored, and biopsied where indicated. Our referral pathway to oral medicine and secondary care is clear and fast.

Three Principles Behind Every Appointment
Evidence-Based Support
Our cessation approach is grounded in established clinical guidelines. Pharmacotherapy, behaviour change, and motivational support are all tools we draw on.
Zero Judgement
Tobacco dependence is a medical condition, not a moral failing. Our cessation consultations are supportive, non-judgmental, and focused entirely on your goals.
Surveillance as Standard
For all tobacco users, oral cancer screening is integrated into every visit as a non-negotiable clinical standard.
The Doctors Behind Your Care
Your care is led by our senior clinicians, Dr. Srivats and Dr. Param, with over 50 years of combined clinical experience. Every finding is reviewed and explained personally; we do not delegate your understanding to anyone else.
